Let's just say that Mom really pulled some fast ones over her 7, 5 and 3 yr. olds on April Fool's Day. (Yes, we all know that you have to be very crafty and witty to succeed in that.) However, even mom was left reeling when Anna and Josh in turn came up with some great "fools" of their own! Lots of laughs at the Bailey household. (Our humor is very simplistic still)
We "kicked off" April Fool's Day with the kids all getting their "own pack of french fries" for FHE. As that announcement was made you could feel the ripple of excitement pass through the crowd. "Our own packs! Yes!!!!" Imagine their surprise when the "fries" turned out to be mini breadsticks and the ketchup was jam. The funniest part was that the kids really didn't understand about April Fool's Day, so this was just the greatest trick that ever had happened in the Bailey household. (Thanks to "Family Fun" mag - and to think Brett said I shouldn't save them! What nerve he has.)
Eliza found the spider Joshua made (see picture above/right) for his "April Fool" at the foot of her bed. She was so frightened that she had to have mom come remove it. She didn't believe that it wasn't real, which made everyone laugh really hard and then laugh some more. (Boy, we should have April Fool's Day more often!)
At dinner time everyone was surprised when Dad agreed that we should eat our cake first and save the chicken pot pie for dessert. CAKE FOR DINNNER? A big, giant, pink frosted cake! The kids were literally climbing out of their chairs lurching for the delicious cake. Luckily, our children's experience with cake is such that this creation actually looked like a typical California Bailey Birthday cake (lots of lumps, lop-sided and like a big mess) so they fell for it hook, line and sinker. It was actually meatloaf and mashed potatoes and while uploading these pictures I am laughing about how disgusting this looks. The kids thought it looked so good! I guess they will eat anything! This dinner was a hit and now I just have to come up with something even trickier next year. (Brett did have to close his eyes while he ate the meatloaf
