I just came across these pictures as we have been trying to put our computer back in order. I can't even remember when these pictures were taken, but they are evidence that we were in Oregon (and not just for Loon Lake). I was surprised at how short Anna's hair was and how long Claire's was. (I think their hair is so cute short.) The kids have so much fun with the kittens and the chickens when we go there- it almost makes me wish we could have one. But thank goodness for Brett's allergy. I think it was Anna who once said, "Mom can I get a different dad who isn't allergic to cats?" when she was 3 or 4 yrs. Haha. Chickens might be do-able.
The attic was recently "remodeled" to be useable instead of just a bunch of heating ducts and cobwebs. There is now a staircase that goes up to it (not just the pull down stairs.) I called it "home" at one point when I was teaching. I pieced together a bunch of remnant carpet scraps I salvaged from the shed for my carpet, put a mattress on the scaffolding that was up there and made it somewhat nice. I stayed until it got so hot that is was hard to breathe. (Plus the bats and ladybugs that came that summer were a deterrent.) I once fell down the attic stairs and then almost fell down another story because the attic stairs are close by the banister to another staircase. I landed on the banister and remember looking down at the next flight of stairs. Climbing up the ladder and then ducking between the ducts to get to my "room" got somewhat tiresome. Especially, when Dad would keep reminding me not to bump them. It was worth it because it was "my own space". I remember the younger kids thought it was so fun to come up there and "hang out".
Dad still says he can't believe I got my desk up there and how hard it was to finally get rid of (they smashed it just to remove it.) Patience was how, Dad. I took it apart, then carried it up piece by piece and then put it back together.
Well, that was quite the walk down "memory lane". Too bad "my space" wasn't painted pink and didn't look like a princess room. That is just for the YOUNGER kids :)
