NOTE: If you hate reading paragraphs on blogs, skip these and go directly down to the videos. They are great! (and no, they aren't videos of our kids!)
Anna was thumbing through a magazine that we get (Family Fun) and commented that she didn't "get" what the ad was saying. It was an ad (part of the new campaign to convince everyone that high fructose corn syrup is okay) that was cleverly drawn up(thus attracting her eye)that said something about how your hairdresser shouldn't be advising you about HFCS.......(in other words your DOCTOR will reassure you that HFCS in moderation is good.) Personally, I wouldn't have immediately "gotten" the ad if I hadn't seen a commercial with a similar slant recently. (I hear desperation in this recent ad campaign - "Don't stop buying 3/4 of what you normally buy just because it has HFCS which is cheap and makes you like what you are eating and it also makes you want more and more and more and more and then we can keep using this waste product and making money on it!!!!")
The day that I actually saw one of these ads on tv I was pretty shocked at how uninformed and unintelligent "they" must think we all are. These commercials might sway my 7 year old who can't believe that anything published or on tv is not the absolute truth. ("But why would they lie? How come the tv people let them lie?" Let's chat for a bit, my sweet innocent daughter.............)
I'll admit, we don't avoid it completely - we try. Brett is better at checking labels than I am (maybe because he can THINK when he grocery shops, sans little children.) Maybe because he doesn't have as many addictions as his wife..... However, it is one of the things we do TRY to avoid - especially for the kids. HFCS, MSG/Veg Protein, white flour/rice, low-fat foods (usually loaded with sweeteners and artifical junk) and blatant junk food on a regular basis.
But don't let all this serious talk sway you from watching these videos. They are pure entertainment - especially the last two. And they are short - only 30 secs to a minute. I say put the kids to bed, grab a HFCS-free snack and enjoy! If you don't think they are funny - tell me. I will set you straight!
P.S. - there are more videos that actually explain in great detail the problems with HFCS, (also on Weston A Price) but since blogs are supposed to be fun, I'll let you find those yourself on youtube! :)
Pathetic but funny: (especially at the end, "Oh! glug glug, yum yum gallon of fruit punch!" Especially notice the expressions on the "paranoid, health nut freaky lady" who is absolutely frightened of HFCS! Okay, please! The other lady is so "hip, cool, calm and collected!"
So lame it is funny: ("I thought you loved me!")
Now for some real funny: (There is so much funny in here I can watch this one over and over!)
And some more real laughs: (Makes you want to make your own video! It looks so easy!)
THE FUNNIEST ONE OF ALL!!! Please pay attention to the popsicle!!!!

Okay, so I LAUGHED! I haven't seen these ads, but come on! Do they really think that people will buy that load of bull?!? Notice how in the first video they mention all the 'benefits' really fast and low like the legal guys trying to sell cars. Hmmmmm.... not very convincing.
P.S. Nice to stumble across your blog. Your kiddos are getting so big and they are cuties!!!
The funny thing is, there are actually studies showing that the same calories of HFCS and table sugar cause different hormone relases and the HFCS increases appetite and decreases feelings of satiety (fullness). The exact opposite of table sugar. So, now you know what "they say" about high fructose corn syrup.
But, I'm preaching to the choir!
I'll have to check out the Family Fun magazine for the add- I'm intrigued!
BTW, what do you think about sucralose (Splenda)? Any thoughts on that one?
Right! And that is just what I want - junk that makes me think I want more:)
I would avoid any artificial sweeteners - period. Stevia is looking pretty good, but I don't love the flavor. So much harder for your body to use and how they are made is just all around bad. Here's a good link - has some interesting stuff on diabeties and sucralose....wasn't splenda first made to be a pesticide? Now we use it to get rid of those
'pests-inside'of us? Haha - do you like my play on words?
