Went roller skating in San Ramon a couple weeks ago. Anna had a birthday party and so we figured we'd make it a family outing since we had to drive clear out there to take her/pick her up. Didn't realize it was $9.00 just to get in! (Not including the skate rental.) $70 for an hour of skating? I guess we are just out of it.
They were nice enough to wave the skate rental since the session was half over. We decided to just get skates for Josh, Claire and Eliza (Luke was free). But they were very, very awkward out there alone. The manager saw us trying to help them from the "outside" and let Brett have some skates which he and I "shared". Hmmm, it was "really" fun skating in skates that are way too big :) This was quite an adventure. The pictures make it look like the kids were much better than they were! In fact, I don't even know how we got a picture of Luke in an upright position :) It was really 3 kids hanging on either Brett or I. (Maybe we should have forked out another $9!)
I got quite a work out and was sore from crouching over trying to help them. Luke tried SO hard to skate and really wanted to do it, but alas, it was not to be. Now he thinks he "can" and at home always wants to put my rollerblades on. Sorry kid - your a long ways off........ But they thought it was super fun!! (See future post on skating lessons by cousin Glory!)

We had so much fun skating over Christmas (for the department "family" Christmas parties), that we got Megan and Miranda their own skates. They now love to put them on and skate around the living/dining room, much to my chagrin. Thankfully, they don't hang on me! (the bearings in the skates we got are for beginners and barely roll!). Zoƫ already had her own skates (birthday present some year before), and she just took off and had a great time! Veronica was in the Moby Wrap... I haven't found skates small enough for her just yet! Oh, and neither Travis nor I have skates, but they were good about letting us walk in sock-feet on the rink (Watch out for toes!!!)
What is your address again? I am sending you $18 dollars so you can each get skates! Pathetic!!! but funny!

Oh, memories of Ward Roller Skating parties at the Cascade rink...
Nadine - I feel your pain re skating inside the house. When Brett is home they cannot. When Brett is gone the family room is okay for them to skate in (fake wood :)Anna was upset that I didn't mention in our blog that she could already skate (how embarrassing for her!) and that she was NOT falling over and/or holding my hand :) Okay okay, but it wasn't like she was skating backwards and doing circles around the kids :) I wish I would have thought about using socks on the roller rink floor (in the beginning before we got a shared pair!) instead of hanging over the side rail and letting go at every column! Our kids would have so much fun together skating around now.
Julie - 1101 Coronado Court. haha You are such a brat!!!!!!
Claudia - are you referring to having kids hanging on you at the roller skating ward activities or just going in general?! I'm SURE Brett never had to hold onto any one :) Are the memories good or bad? :)
Both... hanging on and going. I have good memories...Brett did take off because he was older...the younger ones enjoyed their friends and other ward members who were willing to teach them too. I must admit that I was the one who suggested in Ward Council that perhaps we might want to try ward bowling parties instead for a few years...an idea that was readily accepted because the bowling alley had bumper pads for the little ones.
